Well, it is all very well cooking but every so often it catches up on you. My kitchen was becoming the worse for wear.
I don’t need a new kitchen, just some tender loving care applied to the one I have which was fitted about 10 years ago.
Looking up near the ceiling were a few patches of flaking paint. Cracks and marks seem to arrive from nowhere.
This has been getting me down for a long time now but as I tire easily the very thought of it was enough to put me off.
Electrical Appliances
Now-my secret – I have this great electrical appliance. A mouse sander. The one I have is by Black + Decker – although the sanding sheets are rather expensive from B + D so I got some unbranded ones a lot cheaper on Amazon.
So – last week, up the ladder I go and sand off the damage. I picked up some filler last week-the dry powder which you mix as it is very economical and lasts for a long time.
I just make up a teeny bit at a time and go around the house looking for damage. When the damaged areas are filled I leave it to dry for a few days then sand it off and clean the walls.
I don’t have a huge kitchen but I do have quite a well-planned one with a lot of cupboards so not a lot of wall to pain-lots of fiddly areas below the cupboards and above the plugs though
Today’s task – along with many other days is repainting the kitchen. The preparation is now done in several short bursts of energy, it was now time to scrub all areas I wanted to paint.
All you need is Elbow Grease
Nearly finished! Cleaning the top of the cupboards was a pain though – thank goodness for an Elbow grease spray, a scourer and a piece of cotton towelling.Then to mend the holes in the ceiling where I had a leak a while ago and had to ensure the water didn’t bring the ceiling down.
Apply the paint
It will look new again when I’ve finished. Dulux Soft Vanilla kitchen paint-not quite as greaseproof as it is supposed to be though in my humble opinion.
I do love my small 6 ” roller though rather than a full-sized one. It also means less paint to wash out at the end of the day. The wall areas are fairly small and this is less tiring to hold at arm’s length. Thank goodness we normally use an air fryer.
Cleaned up
I’ve now cleaned up for today and given the paint tray a good scrub so no bits of paint absorbs into the next paint I tip into it. I used up any left on the walls to ensure I didn’t have to pour any away.
Not worth putting it back in the tin as it is a little dry and could spoil the rest of the paint with little dry particles next time I come to use it.
A rest from cooking
A little rest from cooking now until I finish the rest of the painting and get everything where it belongs again.
Elbow Grease
I love this product and apart from washing up liquid and bleach I rarely use anything else. It is great on anything greasy and cleans up cooker hoods, tiles, grill pans, everything, really well.
It is also great on grease spots on clothes.
Do read the directions and do so at your own risk of course. I’ve used it on a cream jumper that had tomato stains on it. It worked better than anything else. My friend used it on the cuffs of a white jacket which was otherwise clean. I buy 3 or 4 sprays at a time when I go shopping at I don’t shop very often at present. I also keep an empty spray bottle for anything I should need a spray bottle for. They work very well.
When there is just a couple of cm left though they don’t spray very well- I find this with all products. I put it aside and start a new one. When there is room in the new one I pour in the rest of the old one.
