Aldi Special Buys | Specialbuys Range | Save Money

I’ve often seen the Aldi Special buys advertised on their website and only recently have I decided to take a look at exactly what they have to offer.

According to their website, new stock arrives every Thursday and Sunday so these are the days of the week to check on the offers and see if there is something you want or need going at a great price. These are new offers so I guess to have to grab it quickly if you see something you want.

You can buy these items the day they are priced up in the store or you can actually order them online a week before.

Aldi will deliver

A bit of a surprise here because we all tend to think of Aldi as somewhere that doesn’t deliver which of course used to be the case and in some aspects still is. For s the special Buys though they do deliver, and it is FREE Delivery as long as you spend £30.

Now £30 doesn’t go far in many shops although in Aldi it will indeed go a bit further than elsewhere, in my own experience. It is very easy to spend £30 on homeware or Camping goods. Yes-Aldi even sells camping goods in the summer-although these days people like their home comforts so it is more a case of glamping than camping.

Aldi ALSO GIVE Guarantees AND Warranties of many items of course so you are not missing out on anything you would get from a more expensive retailer.

All of their offers are short term offers and are only available for a few days so there is no time for dithering. Use their search function on there website to find what you are looking for. I know, time is precious so it is always worth using this if you have something specific in mind. However, I often find things in Special Buys that I just would not have associated with Aldi so it really is worth having a good look through the newsletters to see if there is anything you have been looking for.

I really am pleased to see they have such a great selection of things, although they can be rather random. As things are difficult on the High St now during Covid it is really good to be able to order and get free delivery.

Now ordering is great but I am one of those people who want to know what happens if I need to return something so there is a whole section devoted to this on their website. I often look at the returns process before I even tempt myself into making a purchase.

I am going to tell you about a few items which are in-store and online currently as well as some from the past and some coming soon. Some of the things available right now may come back at a later date so even if you miss it now, you may find it sometime in the future. I have noticed this many times.

Now to what is available right now!

Air fryer

I love air fryers I have to say. Not the sort with the glass bowls though as they are not true air fryers. This one they have on Special Buys though is very much like the one I am currently using. It is the type with a pull out drawer containing a basket.

The most you use oil wise in an air fryer is a dessert spoon of oil and if you have fatty foods or things coated in oil then you don’t need to add anything at all. Time-wise I don’t think they save a lot of time but the taste is far better than cooked in the oven for most foods.

Air fryers are good if you want to reduce your calorie intake as you are not always adding oil to the food but you can see how much fat you collect from it.

Easy to clean, you just pull out the drawer and wash the basket and drawer in the sink.

They are also very economical to run as you are only heating up a ting area rather than a big oven.

Plate Warmer

One item I did notice this week was the electric plate warmer. For anyone who entertains on a regular basis or who has a large family, this could be a great addition. It heats 12 plates at once. Yes, you could put them in the oven but then they tend to get too hot. A friend of mine pours boiling water on top of hers before serving-big fail in my experience. Water everywhere and a wet plate. The downside of this plate warmer is it says it can take up to 30 mins to reach temperature. I doubt it takes that long but if it does then that is too long for me personally.

Cheese Board

For those who like to throw a party, there is currently a rather nice little cheese board. I’ve had the odd cheese and wind party and it is nice to have a good presentation. This is nice for a small gathering and good value if you like a smaller one. It includes a marble top and some cheese knives/forks. The one described is the round one, not the square one which is also in the picture.

So far I’ve only focused on entertaining but that really is because we are coming up to Christmas. Some of the above offers will of course have expired by now.

Cleaning Up

The first offers in the leaflet are all cleaning items. All well-known brands such as Addis, Beldray, and Vileda. The next page follows with various cleaning products including the Pink Stuff which has become very popular recently thanks to Mrs Hinch I believe.

An old-time favourite is in the list of cleaning items-the very popular Zoflora disinfect and which is very concentrated and you only need a tiny capful.

Several pages of cleaning items and then on to the loo roll. For anyone who normally buys the branded ones do give Aldis Saxon 3 ply a chance. It is at least as good as the top brands available elsewhere. Personally, I think it is better. Do buy the 3 ply not the 2 ply though. They sell a 24 pack one but that is not showing in this leaflet.

Heated Airer

People often ask about heated airers. There is one available for £28.99 and I bought this one a couple of years ago. It has 20 heated bars and a 1.4m power cable. It does dry a bit quicker than a standard airer. If you cannot stretch to a tumble drier this could be your answer. For one or two people this would be sufficient for drying your clothes all year round. This is certainly a bargain price compared to the ones elsewhere. It also has a 3-year guarantee. A lot of their products are only on offer for a few days but they often reappear a few months later.

Ironing

Also available is a steam generator iron. Now I always fancied one of these but I’ve never owned one. As I don’t like ironing I tend to avoid it and buy fabrics that do not need ironing. However, if you need clean shirts on a daily basis to wear with a suit this would be ideal. Also a foldup airer-the standard collapsible type, ironing board, etc. You really can add such a diverse assortment of home products to your trolley. People do joke about going in for a loaf of bread and coming out with a chainsaw. It is true. You really do need to take a shopping list with you in case you get distracted.

New Year and Spring Cleaning

Well, I guess the first thing we tend to put away is the Christmas tree and the decorations. If you take care of your decorations they can last for years. Fashions come and go and colour schemes change but I have been known to have a variety of coloured baubles over the years depending on what is in fashion. Currently, I have red silver, gold and green so can make plenty of combinations. The only one I didn’t go with was blue which feels a bit cold to me.

There are Christmas tree storage bags, wrapping paper storage bags and also one for decorations.

I’d only use the tree one personally as I tend to keep any tall boxes for the wrapping paper throughout the year and have a couple of nice boxes in which flower arrangements were delivered. For bauble, I use a plastic tub and some bubble wrap so if you like something more adaptable there is a simple idea for you.. during the rest of the year I do store my Christmas decorations in plastic tubs with lids in the loft. That way they do not get in my way and do not get damaged. Aldi has a selection of low-cost plastic boxes with lids. If you keep to the same brand they will stack on top of each other in use or stack neatly inside each other if empty. Nothing is more infuriating than different brands and sizes which don’t fit together for neatness.

Tidy up the toys

There are also some nice little storage drawers which we have a couple of sets of. They are just about the right size to fit in a wardrobe too which is great if you don’t have room for a chest of drawers. Also big enough and deep enough to use for toys and great for things like lego and stickle bricks. You know how painful those are if they are not cleared away and you happen to step on them!

The shallow containers with lids are great for under bed storage. Better than just pushing things under the bed gathering dust.

Delivery

If you want home delivery from this leaflet it does state that perishable goods cannot be included. You can order wines and spirits though. Aldi has some very nice Prosecco and Champagne at very reasonable prices. I

If you want to host a nice buffet for your family there is a large range of ready prepared frozen and fresh foods. This week I treated myself to a large pack of smoked salmon for £4.99. This was cheaper than the smaller packs and about half the price of a smaller pack in Sainsbury’s. I do tend to treat myself to smoked salmon every year. I’ve not spotted it in the leaflet but do lookout for it.

Vegetarian and Vegan

We also like Vegetarian and Vegan foods and again there are some great ideas. The no-meat sausage rolls in the frozen section are just as good if not better than your average pork sausage rolls. There are a variety of frozen items such as Quorn mince as well so you will see some familiar products and some own branded ones. This year I’ve bought Mushroom Wellington for one family member who does not want meat.

Driving and Car Care

Steering away from the Aldi Specialbuys a little now, I always look for car products in Aldi home and D.I.Y. section. I got a great set of jump leads last year which are 3m in length so longer than average and half the price of anywhere else at just £9.99. I buy my screen wash, car covers, car mats, air fresheners, all sorts of things that in the past I would either buy in a garage (expensive) or an auto shop most of which have closed down in my area. I also managed to get some de-icer in a spray bottle last week instead of an aerosol spray. I hate aerosols as they seem to block up before they are empty.

Gardening and Home Improvements

There is always a selection of tools available from palm sanders to drills and even stepladders. I’ve also seen some great garden equipment for sale at very reasonable prices. Tree loppers, sheers, hanging baskets, patio cleaner, you name it depending on the season and you can buy it. I did get a very nice bird feeder one year which has served me well but I now need to try to repair the hanging hook. I do dry to repair things rather than replace them where possible.

A while ago there were some carpet shampooers for £49.99 and as mine is now not working I am wishing I had bought one. I will just keep looking and hoping that they do come back as normally they will.

The offers are seasonal of course so you cannot depend on finding a certain product in stock.

Bedding

I always take a look at their bedding also as they often have Egyptian cotton bedding and nice quality towels. Their towelling tea towels are very absorbent and of great value and I replaced mine a couple of years ago.

Snuggle up

There are some lovely snuggly robes and throws again this year and every year I am tempted by them. I don’t need any though so I have resisted. There are some nice sparkly cushions for £8.99 each. They are going to be sold in pairs in January it seems for exactly double the price. Not sure about that deal really-I prefer to buy these individually as I usually buy 5 cushions and I’m sure I am not alone.

Babies and Children

I’ve also seen some great value cot bedding now and then along with children’s clothing. Cheap and cheerful and with the speed that children grow this is perfect. A good place to look for stationery and all things school-related too, such as lunch boxes and backpacks.

January Sales

After Christmas, there are generally some great bargains to be found-certainly in the Christmas lines. This is the time when people often stock up on cards and wrapping paper ready for next year. It will most likely be half price.

I did grab a few bargains in January by getting 2 Kevin the Carrot books and Kevin Christmas cards plus a pair of tots pyjamas for 9p apiece. Yes-you did read that right! I just gave them away as random gifts but they were too good to walk past.

I notice Kevin is back on the shelves this year so it looks like he is here to stay. I’m not sure where Katy is though as she was nowhere to be seen in my local store.

Things I missed

I really should have bought one of their art sets containing either the oils or acrylics but I didn’t realise my daughter was getting back into art. They were only about £8.99 for a decent sized set. So those and a carpet shampooer are on my list for 2021.

So whatever you are looking for, take a look at the newsletters and pop into the store to take a look. If you are not an Aldi regular ten you may be surprised.
