By being mindful of your spending habits and making a few lifestyle changes, you can save a ton of money without sacrificing your quality of life. Here are ten frugal living tips to help you get started.
- Make a Budget: The first step to saving money is to make a budget. List all your income sources and expenses, and make sure you have a plan for every pound. Tracking your spending will help you identify areas where you can cut back.
- Cook at Home: Eating out can be expensive. By cooking at home, you can save money and have more control over what you eat. Plan your meals ahead of time, and buy ingredients in bulk to save even more.
- Use Coupons and Deals: Before making any purchases, check for coupons and deals online. Websites like hotukdeals, Money Saving Expert, and Wowcher can save you money on everything from groceries to clothing.
- Shop Secondhand: Charity shops, boot sales, and online marketplaces like Facebook Marketplace and Vinted are great places to find secondhand items at a fraction of the cost of buying new. You can save money on clothing, furniture, and even electronics.
- Cancel Unused Subscriptions: Do you really need that gym membership you never use? Cancelling unused subscriptions can save you hundreds of pounds each year.
- Reduce Energy Usage: Lowering your energy usage can save you money on your utility bills. Unplug electronics when not in use, turn off lights when leaving a room, and use energy-efficient appliances.
- Buy Generic Brands: Generic brands can be just as good as name brands but cost significantly less. Try switching to generic versions of your favourite products and see how much you can save.
- Plan Staycations: Instead of spending money on expensive holidays plan a staycation. Explore your own city or town, visit local museums and parks, and try new restaurants.
- Use Public Transportation: Cars can be expensive to maintain and operate. Using public transportation, carpooling, or biking can save you money on gas, parking, and repairs.
- DIY: Do-it-yourself projects can save you money on home repairs and renovations. YouTube and Pinterest have countless tutorials on how to tackle almost any project.

Believe it or not. A millionaire taught me these things when I was a young girl.
She taught me “you never get money by running around spending it”
I guess that’s why she had it. She had been a midwife during the wartime.
Wise words indeed
When my kids were small & I was short of cash, I had a book & put down everything I spent as well as income. Using cash instead of a card stopped impulse purchases A 2nd hand tent in the garden for kids to “go camping” with friends. Picnics were always a winner (cheap & cheerful hm food/ snacks to take with you). Walks in the country, swimming, library, parks etc
This is still the simplest way. Not even any electric needed to make the notes 😛 The old ways still work in most cases and a spending diary keeps you on track at all times.
