An Introduction to Making Seitan

ingredients

Jayelle Bowen

Homemade Seitan, a solid 1 LB of protein for around 65p.

I’ve cut this roll into 8 slices making it around 8p a thick slice. This will be dipped in bread crumbs and made into fake chicken burgers.

Seitan is made from extracting the protein from the starch and is really easy to do, it’s basically pure gluten.

I’ve done step by step photographic instructions, but I would recommend looking on the tube to see how it’s done, especially the ” washing” of the ball of dough, there is a technique.

This method I’ve shown here is great for a beginner, more advanced stuff is fake steak, lamb, gammon and fish including prawns.

I’ve made fake sausages, mincemeat, BBQ spare ribs, a fake roast chicken roll, chicken nuggets and fake kebab meat, this stuff is very versatile not to mention cheap. Instructions in photos.
