Rainy Day Box

Shopping basket full of goods, groceries, products, foods, and shop items

Even if it is only a little one and you only buy one item a week, if you are one who goes through “bad spells” every now and again create a Rainy Day Box.

Stock it up with the basics of canned and dried foods.

Things like:

  • Pasta
  • Rice
  • Beans
  • Stock cubes
  • Kidney beans
  • Chickpeas
  • Flour
  • Sugar
  • Tea
  • Coffee
  • Tuna
  • Tinned meat

You won’t save the world and it may not solve your problems but it will be the difference between sheer panic and knowing you will get by.

Try to set aside just £1 a week for it (if you can). If you did that for 6 months you would have £26 worth of food aside which could save you an enormous headache.

Start this now in anticipation of the Summer holidays
Christmas – just for a short week-whatever-start now.

This is something I always did when my children were growing up. Before I had children I had a Christmas box full of gifts for any unexpected events.

  2. I’d add tinned sardines in oil to that list. Often forgotten and 40p a tin high in heathy omega 3 and full of healthy fish oils. Added to pasta or rice goes far but also makes good fish cakes

  3. I’ve also got tinned tomatoes, tinned fruit and tea bags in mine Pat. It’s also handy if you run out before the next shop.
